Hey Blackdevil welcome. I have not seen the 7900 offered on any sale. It is one of Outlaw's newer amp. I am an owner of the 7500 and this is a beast of an amplifier. If you are looking for a 7 channel then the 7700 will be a solid performer. The 7900 is for added power you really need. Know this that you need two separate circuits to plug this 145 lb monster to. You will also need larger, more power hungry speakers. The 7900 is a formidable unit and about as good as it gets in a multichannel power amplifier. Please don't anybody be sold on uber expensive $8k to $10k multichannel amps. A big waste of money you could otherwise use for a decent vacation. Spend that added money on speakers, a huge screen...perhaps a projector etc. The 7900 should be the best value for the money if ultra power is what you are looking for.
P.S. It will look awesome in your rack.

Luckily, I am building a dedicated theater room from scratch, and I'm gonna have the electrician put in two dedicated 15 amp circuits by my rack, just for this amp. The speaker it will be driving would be JTR Triple 12HT's. They are NOT power hungry speakers at 101db efficiency, but they can handle up to 1600 watts. Reference level would be a breeze with this set-up lol.
I read something like there was a black friday sale on this amp. The next time there's a sale, consider me number one on the list of orders lol. Just free shipping alone is a big deal on this 145 pound monster!

If you are doing all that Blackdevil then it would be mistake not going for all the marbles and getting the 7900. Buy it ONCE and don't buy again. Good luck.

Thank you. I'm just hoping for a sale, or even a free shipping special. After looking through the forums, I saw it went on sale a couple of times. I'll be checking back frequently!

At 101 db efficiency you will never use all that power. Consider that the 7125 could drive those speakers over 120 db and the 7900 to about 125 db it isn't cost effective to get the 7900. I would save the cash and get a 7700 or a 7125 as they will both be killer. Remember if you have to move or shipped the 7900 it will be a chore for two people.

While it may not be often, there are times I like it loud, and when I say loud, I MEAN LOUD! I have an SPL meter and I have a mobile DJ system consisting of JBL pro speakers. The meter only goes up to 126db, once it goes past that, it just blinks at 126db. I've had it blinking with my DJ set up lol. I know I know, terrible for the ears, but it is on rare occasion. The speakers are capable of handling far more then 450 watts and have a max SPL of 133db. The more headroom, the better (in my mind). The weight has no influence what so ever, neither does the need for 2 dedicated circuits. Both of those things are not problems at all. And If I ever decide to go with more inefficient speakers, I'll be covered. I'll probably be keeping this amp as long as its running, with many different speakers. These to be exact as front left, center and front right speakers http://jtrspeakers.com/home-audio/triple-12ht/

There was a very sweet sale on the 7900 and I think that was the first time I've ever seen it on sale. I was not able to pick one up due to having spent for the holidays already. Rather than wait for an uncertain future sale, I just took advantage of the sale on the 7700 and it should arrive in Texas on Monday.

WOW! I won't be missing the next sale on the 7900. If it's in May/June sometime, count me in, that would be perfect. I've read to many amazing things about the 7900 to want anything else. I was really reading for the amps audiophile ability, and wanted to know how it compared to amps such as the Parasound A51 etc. The reviews I've read convinced me, that this was the amp for me. Prior to the JTR's, I was interested in the Paradigm S8's and the Aerial Acoustics 7T's. The Aerials can't do reference levels and the S8's would have some difficulty while I hear fantastic things about the sound quality of the Triple 12HT's, and that they are effortless at reference level and above. According to an AVS member that compiled a list, the Triple 12HT's only need 34 watts to reach reference level at 12 feet away. Now I'm gonna be feeding it 450 watts since it's a 4 ohm speaker!
This amp will probably be one of my favorite, if not, my absolute favorite component of my home theater system.

Pumping out that much SPL into even a large HT room will be an excruciating experience. You are right about the headroom for less efficient speakers though and you will likely never need another amp. Listening at 12 db SPL ABOVE reference should be a once in a lifetime experience. Let us know how it sounds.
