Geez Dave, my heart goes out to you. What a terrible stroke of luck!
Currently, I'm using a pair of old Adcom ACE 515s for protection on the audio gear as well as a Furman product for the plasma. I have a cable signal amplifier that, I believe, also has some surge protection. I've also used a small surge protector from Radio Shack that goes between the cable line and the TV that looks like this:
http://www.pccables.com/02404.htm The Adcoms have a lot of years on them and have faithfully protected my equipment. That said, I don't think I've ever taken a hit as severe as you've expereinced. So I guess the real test (thank God) has not been wrought upon me.
