So connecting the Motorola box's IR jack to the 1070's IR input allowed the Motorola's sensor to pass data to the 1070? That sounds like the IR port is there for controlling something like a VCR (it could pass along or even generate IR signals so it could command the VCR to record a show when you are away). If I'm right, you will probably need to stick an IR emitter onto the front of the Motorola box in order to control it without line-of-sight. I'd say that you could use an IR emitter like the ones I've got in my system and just connect it to the 1070's IR output, but I've never tried it and don't know if it would actually work.
