In my opinion, Outlaw is pretty neutral, neither bright nor dark, just right. It could have more low level detail, but that's pretty expensive to achieve and at 7.1 channels and this price point, I'm not so sure how much better, sound-wise, it could get.
I use it pired with Axiom speakers in the front and Orb in the back.
I have my music gear in a separate room, a Cambridge Audio 640A amp paired with Infinity Delta 30 floor standers. The Outlaw scores right there, with the Cambridge, and it's a receiver, not a dedicated stereo amp with class A driver which harvested scores of awards...
Cambridge has the "british midrange", whereas Outlaw is more muscular and dynamic, but the overall sound is darn good and choosing one over the other is a matter of taste. I'm seriously thinking how Outlaw stereo gear sounds for music if this surround receiver sounds so good. I bet it scores high.
