I have a suggestion that I think will work: connect both component or DVI (to feed the main display) and composite or s-video (to feed the 8" LCD) from each video source. In that scenario, the low video connection (composite or s-video) should be passed out to the corresponding monitor output while the higher video connection (component or DVI) is used for the main display.
