Pick an input (such as Video1) and make sure it is set for both DVI-1 and the optical input that you connected the DirecTV receiver to. Once you've done that, try switching to that input while the projector is set to the DVI input (if you're accessing the menu on the projector, it must be on a different input since the 990's menu isn't displayed on the DVI monitor output) - let us know if that does the trick or not.
