I'm sure this question has been asked before. If I input componet to the 990 will it output through DVI? Im running all componet now, but have some devices that have hdmi. I dont want to have to switch inputs on the tv though so if it is not possible I will continue to use the componet cables for all connections.

The 990's video switching will not convert analog video sources (composite, s-video, or component) to digital (DVI). Sorry.

Gonk:

A related question:

My Oppo 971H is finally on order. It will be the only compnent I have with a DVI/HDMI connection, so I assume keeping the signal path as simple as possible and reducing unncecesary cabling is the best way to go. Therefore, for the video portion, should I just cut out the 970 from the food chain altogether and go right to the HDMI input on my TV? I'm not sure what value using my 970 as a throughput for this application would have.

With a single DVI/HDMI source, there's not really any benefit to using the 970's DVI switching. If you find yourself acquiring a second DVI or HDMI source (such as an HD-DVD player or PS3), you could then move cables around and start using the 970's switching, but until then it isn't necessary.
