Hi everyone.
I walked across my livingroom to adjust the volume on my 990,then I touched the volume knob there was a static elect.shock and the display went out completley. The music kept playing,so I shut off the 990 and powered it back up immedatley and everything was fine.
Has anyone ever encountered something similar? I thought it shoulded be grounded already to prevent problems like this?

It's not unusual for static electricity to wreak occasional havoc with electronics, especially computer-based ones like the 990. I had experience with the $15k Conrad-Johnson ART preamp whose display would crash whenever you would touch it or some other component in the system, even if you yourself didn't feel any discharge (ie a "zap"). If you have recurring problems with static you may want to install a static discharge strip (or mat) somewhere near your 990 (available at computer supply stores).

Or put use a small humidifier in that room.

Thanks for all the replys and info.My audio rack has some metal on the face so I decided to touch it first to discharge any elect shock, and also had to instruct my wife to do the same,or I could just use the remote, which is the idea I like the most.
Thanks
Mike

This exact same thing happened to me last night, scared the heck out of me as I had just set up the unit for the first time..
