in the window of the 990, there is a red icon lighted that looks (to me)like a speaker, with 3 lines to the right of it - it is in the 2nd row up from the bottom - on the far right, but to the left of the icons marked A and B
mine is lit all the time, and i wonder what it means...?

That icon indicates that the pre-amp outputs are active - it only turns off if the headphone output is active (which in turn shuts off the pre-amp outputs).
