I am in the market to replace my twenty year old amp. At the present my plans do not include to upgrade to a HT unit. Is the 750, with it's five channels, too much amp for a stereo system?

If all you need is two-channel amplification and you don't think you'll expand to home theater, the 750 will leave you with a lot of unused amp. On the other hand, if your speakers support bi-wiring/bi-amping, you could try bi-amping -- which would use four of the five channels.
