Page 6 of Version 1.2.6 of the manual states:
STEREO BYPASS button (see page 31)
Defeats the DSP processing section and provides an unaltered, full-bandwidth stereo signal to the Left and Right channel outputs on the rear panel. However, the subwoofer DSP crossover remains active and bass frequencies are available at the subwoofer output should you wish to augment your front LR speaker’s low frequency performance. The word BYPASS appears in the FRONT PANEL DISPLAY. Pressing the button again returns the unit to the previously selected DSP mode.
So, the mains will get the full range of the audio signals. The low frequencies are
also sent to the subwoofer output, so if your subwoofer is turned on, you will get the low frequencies there too. I believe this is the "double bass" that every one is referring too. It can be eliminated by turning off the sub. But I think users/potential users feel that they shouldn't have to get up and go turn off the sub; the 950 should have an option to turn off the sub output when the unit is in bypass mode.
Now Scott says that double bass is not a problem in stereo mode. The manual seems to contradict him. I don't have the 950 yet (still have 5 more days to make up my mind) so I cannot say from personal experience. But if you have one, it should be easy enough to confirm for yourself. Take a test CD that has tones below 80-60Hz or so. Play them in stereo bypass mode, with the subwoofer on, and see if anything comes out of both your mains and the subwoofer.
