Hopefully I will get my new 1050 this week and I was wondering what is the best way to connect:

The dish receiver has standard RCA connectors, video and audio out, S video out and Doly Digital Out (optical). Do I go from dish receiver to 1050 then to TV ? or dish receiver to TV then to 1050? My TV only has RCA connectors. And then I have to consider my DVD player, It has RCA, S video, and optical connector?? Thanks

I am going to guess that your TV has composite connectors, Red/White and Yellow(Video) Would this be correct?

How many sets of connectors are on the TV? If only a single set then connect everything to the 1050 and then make a single connection to the TV from the 1050.

I would connect the Dish to the 1050 using optical. I would connect the DVD to the 1050 using optical.

Then for video I would connect BOTH the Dish and DVD to the 1050 using S-Video and then connect the 1050 to the TV using the only connection type you have; RCA. Or if you want, you can connect Dish and DVD to the 1050 using Composite(RCA) and then connect the 1050 to the TV the same way. But you will ONLY need a single Yellow RCA cable as the white and red are for audio.

My preference would be to use the S-video for when you get a newer TV.

I am not doing any video switching with the 1050, only audio switching. My TV has 4 video inputs.

In your first post you said the TV only has RCA connectors, which to me would mean Composite.

Since you say you have S-Video on the TV, how many connections? If only one then you have to determine either which you watch more TV or Dish and connect one via S Video to the TV(assuming one S connection) . . . or if only 1 S-video connection then I would connect both the Dish and DVD to the 1050 via S-Video and use the 1050 as your A/V Switcher.

Make sense?

Larry
