It might also interest you to know that your idea of adding the ability to use the LFE portion of the 5.1 direct input has been included in the 950 -- they've added an 80Hz crossover on the direct input that can be enabled to send any portion of the signal below 80Hz to a sub (a pretty rare feature on direct inputs). It's not as full-featured as something like the ICBM's dedicated bass management or even what the bass management on the standard inputs for the 1050 can do, but it is available.
