Is the 0.5m PCB "Extension" cable actually usable as a normal XLR male to female cable? It's listed as "extension" on the product order page whereas all other cables are listed as "interconnects," hence the question.

I hadn't noticed the extension there before. I'd suggest giving Outlaw a call and asking if it is male-to-female, male-to-male, or female-to-female.
