Yes I have, but I've yet to find anything there that has said one way or another what his intention was.
As I've said before, the only thing that comes close to an explination is that it was intended to be viewed as a 35mm (acadamy standard) film, but WB was concerned that most theaters (read commercial) would not show the film if it was sent to them in this format, so Kubrick was asked to "trim" it down to be shown in a widescreen theater.
Like I said, I can only find one source for this...and it was on a IMDB chatboard. (Which may or may not be a "reliable" source.)
Perhapse I'm beating a dead horse here. I love the film, the transfer is excellent, and if it wasn't intended to be seen in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, it is amazingly re-edited so you wouldn't know. I should probibaly just be happy with the way things are, but it's just gnawing away at me.
