If using the three-prong cord, the 3rd prong won't be attached, obviously. But you can purchase heavier power cords in three-prong style. I think using a 16 gauge cord would work fine. You could go with an 18 gauge, as I'm fairly certain the 970 as a processor won't draw too much current for that size.
