I am certainly not trying to stir the pot with this post. I'm simply trying to understand what is going on. Many people have asked for the feature to be able to name their inputs. Seems reasonable to me. I don't quite understand the resistance. The microcontroller has to manage the human interactions for the user interface, and it also has to communicate to the display driver to indicate what is written to the screen. Maybe this is a problem if an ASIC or FPGA is used to handle the control interface.
Another thing that seems to be on the wish list for some Model 976 owners is having on screen adjustments overlaid over the active video material or volume/surround mode... I realized that the product does not have an actual video processor to handle the processing necessary to alter active video. It is more of an HDMI switch, so that I can live without.
The Model 976 looks like a very nice product, and will probably be in my equipment rack at some point this year.
