My TV is a 2017 Sony XBR65X930E 65-Inch 4K HDR Ultra HD TV and my Blu-ray player is a OPPO UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player.

In the TV input settings under HDMI Signal Format there are settings Enhance 4K HDMI Signal Format or Standard.

The Enhance 4K HDMI Signal Format setting was causing problems with some older DVD’s (screen blinking on and off, not able to maintain handshake). Changing this from the default to standard seems to fix this, still testing to be sure.

I’m having some of the same issues with my HTPC that I discuss in a different thread. This setting change in my TV didn’t help my HTPC.
That setting enables an HDMI 2.0a mode. Some older devices may not be compatible.
