This is correct, Makdoogle. Nothing magical happens on any one channel that makes it unsuitable to use for any other input. The labels are just to help you keep everything straight.

However, I believe that there are two transformers inside and the L and R channels are set up so they're one on each to balance the loading. I'd recommend keeping to that configuration, if possible.
