I just picked up a Panasonic TH-50PX6U at Costco for $2199.00 last week. It is fantastic. It works well with the 990. In fact, My mother-in-law watched Nemo yesterday (for the first time) with my 5 year old and even though we had take out from an excellent Italian restaurant called Sweet Basil, she wouldn't come upstairs to eat until the movie was over! I know this is a different model than the one you are asking about, but I thought it might be of some help.
