May I suggest a new measurement for amplifiers claiming to be the "best"? Since in actual listening situations the signal is 20 or 30 db below full output 98% of the time, why not describe that part of an amplifier's performance area? And since we find odd-order harmonic distortion more irritating than even-order, why not present, specifically, how many db down an amplifier's odd-order harmonic distortion is from, say, ten milliwatts up to ten watts? Gonk, and you Outlaws, you know that music or speech averaging ten milliwatts into a 90-db-sensitive speaker (Klipsches are more sensitive I think) equates to a comfortable listening level in an ordinary room. So let's talk about freedom from distortion at the levels where people actually listen. I submit that at sound levels where the ear is nonlinear anyway, worrying about low levels of distortion makes very little sense.
