There's a thread going at AVS where someone's working on a receiver shoot-out involving the 1070, the Denon 4306 (two notches up Denon's product line), and the Pioneer 74Txvi. He's still trying to get a good handle on optimized setup for the Denon and Pioneer (the 4306 didn't seem to strike a great chord with him), but at the moment he seems to feel that the 1070 sounds the best.

Having said that, I'll follow up with this. What works for one person won't work for everyone. Sound is important, but it can also be subjective. On top of that, there are cases where factors other than sound have to be taken into consideration - features, brand familiarity, even aesthetics.
