A.G., I happen to be doing the same thing, almost. I have a couple of Sunfire amps, which have "voltage source" and "current source" output terminals for most channels. The difference is that the "current source" terminals have 1-ohm resistors in series with them, which reduces the damping factor (by raising the output impedance).

I, too, have my mains set to 'large' and sub set to 'off'. The "current source" outs feed my Def Tech 2000's tweeters and the "voltage source" terminals feed the mid-woofers. The sub input jacks are fed by a pair of full-range output jacks on my B&K AVP-4090 pre/pro. You could almost say that my mains are "bi-amped/tri-wired",as each is fed by two speaker wires and one RCA cable.
