Keep in mind that you are also adding a new piece to the puzzle when moving from stereo to surround: channel calibration (and of course its cousin speaker delay). This allows you to adjust the output level of each speaker so they all yield an equal volume at your sitting position. This will likely take care of any need for additional "presence" in key chanels.
