Woah... That gives me flashbacks to living in the dorm my freshman year (although in that case we were using carburetor cleaner and a match, not Allman Brothers and a speaker). Flaming speakers are almost always an indication of trouble. Hopefully somebody here can give you some good thoughts on checking the crossover and other internals -- all I can think of is to look for obvious damage (blackened components on the crossover, singed or melted insulation, etc).
