I'm wondering if there is any type of room correction that can be used with the 976. I've talked to people who have this on their receiver they say it makes a big difference.

I am just starting to experiment with REW and a UMIK-1 USB microphone that should be able to show if EQ is needed for each speaker.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I got everything working and believe it or not I think overall everything looks real good.
All I did is run the auto setup with the microphone supplied by Outlaw with the 976 and I have not touched any of the settings.
There are some things I need to fine tune which I will start to mess with later.
REW is a great program and it can really analyze you system way beyond what I am capable of doing and it's free!
You need to go to AV Nirvana and sign up then you can download the program and there are some great tutorials on setting your computer up to run all of the tests.
This is the best one that I found - https://www.dropbox.com/s/zdhq72a1puyyxpr/REW%20101%20HTS%20Current%20Version.pdf?dl=0
You will have to join Dropbox to download it but it worked for me.
Just a little advice be sure you have a couple of hours of uninterrupted time to go though each step but it's worth it.

Wow! That is amazing! I used the outlaw mic for the simple setup and was impressed by that alone! I never did anything like that with the 990. I remember buying some type of mic and doing some type of adjustments with an old audio program that used a DVD. I will have to educated myself and find some time to play with the REW. I just ordered the spears and munsil UHD video calibration disc for my new Epson 6050. Being as I just dropped a ton of $ on my home theater I want it to perform as good as it can. smile

I'm new to the forum, just got a 976 and 7000x to replace an 11 year old Denon. My question is with REW does it tell you how to set the PEQ for each speaker.

I am still learning but I think REW can set an EQ for each speaker that you can then download into the 976 but I haven't figured it all out yet.

You can definitely take measurements using REW (with the right microphone) and use them to compute a PEQ setting specific to the options available for the 976 for each channel. You then enter the settings through the OSD.

The learning curve and time for this process is substantial but I found it really taught me a lot about my room. In the end I was dissapointed with what I could achieve with EQ and instead I shifted attention to speaker/listener placement and acoustic treatments (bass traps, diffusors).
