Hi everyone, I'm new to the group and the 976. Was wondering since everything except the 7.1 inputs are digitized does the 976 up sample everything to 24 bit/192kHz? I had been using a Nuforce APV-17 and listening to analogue out of a Bluesound Node2 with all Transparent cabling. I really like the sound I have now with the 976, BUT wonder what I'm loosing by not having the MQA from the Node2? What would be the difference if any between the coax out from the Node2 compared to the analogue outs since they both end up coming out of the 976 DAC's?

If the analogue signal is MQA going into the 976 is that down or up sampled when it comes through? I can't find any information just searching the web so looking for real world knowlage before having to call Outlaw although that may be the easy route, I'm sure others wondering would like to find the answer here searching.
Thanks!

MQA and even hi-res are controversial subjects - if you are happy with the sound you have then that is all that needs to be said!

If you want to get as close as possible to an MQA digital signal path on the 976 then using Roon software with a supported endpoint is one way to go. I stream Tidal using Roon, the MQA tracks get the first unfold fom the Roon software before being sent to the endpoint (an Allo DigiOne Signature in my case, but many others are also supported) then into the 976 over SPDIF (coax). The Node2 is Roon ready so you are already pretty close, but you would be running it without its MQA support and instead feeding the digital output into the 976.

Nothing. You have MQA on the Node2. MQA is purely digital. On one side it compresses the digital signal and on the other side it decompresses the digital. All this happens before the DAC.

Hard to say. It depends on the quality of the DACS in the Node2. In general I'm in favor of keeping everything digital as long as possible so I'd go with coax/TOSLINK. Extra conversions tend to add noise. As always, what sounds best to you is right. Try them both and pick.

Not sure what you're asking here. Compressed MQA is 44.1 Khz 16 bits. From what I could find you can put this in a DAC directly (without decompression) and it will still work but with higher noise than decompressed.

Thanks for the insight I feel that the sound is very close and likely a little better "back ground" keeping digital all the way to the 976. Not sure what the conversions are, but have had enough time now listening to different configurations that I'm please with this.
