I will probably never upgrade my theater to more than 7.2 so the 976 is a good fit I think.

My suggestion is buy the 976. It handles all the current audio and video and if you don't think you'll need more than 7.2 then it fits. What it lacks is room correction but you can have that with a mic, REW and a bit of a learning curve.

I know.
I was going to buy the 976 when it first came out but not being able to re-name the inputs was a turn off for me especially when it was learned that Outlaw was not going to write a firmware patch to give us that ability.
Now I feel stupid for not taking advantage of the discount to previous Outlaw customers.

It would have been nice to be able to rename the inputs but in the end it wasn't supposed to be a big deal since I was going to use a Harmony remote. It is sensitive to the remote angle and doesn't always receive the source command when I switch activities. I need to insert the source command later in the sequence or add a delay to make sure it will change. The price discount was nice but I think the 976 is still a pretty good deal.

I am going to agree.
I use a URC remote so I finally realize the name on the inputs is no big deal.

My 'wish feature' for the 976 was the inclusion of an FM HD Radio tuner.
That didn't materialize.
Continuing to run my ol' Sunfire Theatre Grand IV processor.
Like others mentioned, want to upgrade but............

I wish that the Outlaws would just post if the Atmos processor is still in the works.
A simple yes or no would suffice for now.
No need to mention an approximate delivery date or anything like that but just to let us know that it might still be a possibility sometime in the future.

Go look at the other products out there if you want to upgrade. The Marantz stuff looks very good as does the Onkyo and Yamaha. The industry has passed beyond what the yet to be named Outlaw processor will be able to do.

I think I will probably just go with the 976 even if the Marantz AV7705 looks really enticing.
Just hoping that Outlaw would see my post and throw us a bone.

I appreciate the desire to stick around and look for the processor yet to be named but in the end it will have a price point at least what the AV7705 has and the Outlaw service still handles any problems with the marantz

The Marantz is a nice pre/pro and it is a stable platform, unlike Emotiva's processors which seem to be pretty buggy.
I just have to decide if I would ever upgrade my theater to an Atmos setup or not.
