Hello all, first time caller here. I have the RR2150 and recently it's been dropping a channel. Speakers, headphones, same thing. When it happens it can be fixed by rapidly turning the volume knob up. My diagnoses is that the volume contact needs cleaning. Two questions:

Outlaw tech support told be there are two versions of this receiver, one that allows you to clean the contacts and one that does not. How do I know which version I have without opening the unit?

Assuming I have the version that can be cleaned, any help on how to?

You'd need to take the cover off at the very least and look at the volume control. If you can see an opening on either side of the control, you should be able to squirt some electrical contact cleaner into it. You can use a spray cleaner with a straw applicator. I haven't tried it but I've heard you can use WD-40.

Take a picture of the inside switch and send it to Outlaw service so they can verify which version. I would hesitate to spray anything without Outlaw weighing in first.

I would take this approach. There's a possibility that they mean both volume knobs are analog, one sealed, one not sealed in which case contact cleaner would work fine on the non-sealed version. There's also a possibility that one is analog and one is a digital encoder. Spraying contact cleaner in a digital encoder might destroy it.

Please don't use WD40 on electronic circuits. It's a lubricant and will leave a residue behind. Any electronic store will carry contact cleaner. Or you can get it from that big mail delivery place that starts with an "A"
