Can the Outlaw 2160 be used as a power amp for my fronts in a HT setup? Is there any guidance on the gain settings that I need to set? Also it does not appear to have a "trigger in" so any suggestions on how to switch on by connecting with my AVR? I understand a dedicated power amp will make most sense but wanted to give this a try since I moved to a 5.1 setup from a 2.1 and wanted to use by Outlaw along with my AVR.

You could use the 2160s amp to power your mains by putting the output of your L/R channels from your AVR to the amp inputs on the 2160. Seems like a huge waste of the 2160s circuitry since it will no longer be in the loop for any audio. How to trigger the 2160 with the rest of your system will be a challenge unless you power it all through a common power supply that you can just switch on. You will still have to power on the 2160 separately to get the amp to function. You would be better buying a 5 channel amp like the 5000 to make it all work.

Thanks. Curious to know why you say it will be huge waste of the circuitry? LR Preouts from my AVR go into Analog 1 in. No Bass management needed of course but what else?

I wouldn't recommend plugging into the analog input 1 from an AVR. There is the potential to overwhelm the 2160's input circuit. This will cause distortion at the very least, and possibly even blow the input circuit chip(s), if the AVR's volume is raised too high. Your only viable option to use these devices together would be to connect the AVR to the main-in RCA's.
As Xenonman says...

Gotcha. Thanks that makes sense. Yes I need to save for a Outlaw 5000 then!
