I have a very simple and straight forward home stereo. The RR2160 is the foundation. For playback I use a Emotiva ERC-3 CD player and a Pro-Ject Carbon turntable. A pair Tekton Design M-Lore's are the speakers.

Hardly audiophile, but for less than $3000.00, not too shabby.

I'm not going to bore you with superlatives. It is very musical. The FM tuner is first rate. The Classic Rock station I listen to broadcasts in HD. The quality is on par with satellite.

Since you have a turntable I feel compelled to ask if you are a vinyl collector from years ago or someone who just gotten into the format because of the resurgence. Since you are obviously a music aficionado which format do you prefer and are you growing your vinyl collection? FWIW I am interested in the quality of new recordings and if the newer pressings are cleaner than in the past.

Sorry for such a delayed response. All I can say is, "it depends." I have old (60's/70's vintage)records that I've stolen back from my daughter that sound okay, but they have been played a lot. I've purchased used records that sound great and I've purchased new reissues that are better than original.

To me, and this is where I differ from a lot of "audiophiles" is I'm more interested in how the music makes me feel than how "clean" the recording is.

All of my vinyl is 60-70s and in excellent condition. I archived them all to tape when I got them and didn't play any vinyl for almost twenty years. Once I set up my music system I started again since I no longer have a tape machine. Whenever I play an album for which I have the CD it is obvious that the CD has much better dynamics and no pops, clicks and hash. Don't get me wrong, but for music which is recorded with the same level of precision the CD wins every time.

That's the rub though, you don't know which is better until you have both. laugh
