Hey All,

I was just wondering if anyone had any plans for their 990 in their future. Such as what type of system they have and what type of changes they might make. I for one, would like to keep using my 990 for another 10 years or more if I can. grin I bought it originally in 2004 on release & it still works great.

As for HDMI, I just send the HDMI output to the HD TV & feed the TV's signal back to the stereo system for a DVD recorder for instance. I use monoblock amps (balanced/XLR connections) & a powered subwoofer. It sounds really good. If I was going to upgrade anything in the future, I'd probably go with buying a pair of Thiel speakers.

So my current system is something like this:

Outlaw 990
Audiosource mono blocks (XLR connection)
Polk Audio Monitor series left/right towers and powered sub
Sharp AQUOS 32" HD TV
AT&T U-verse DVR
Toshiba DVD Recorder/DVR
Panasonic VCR (has an S-video output..lol)
Tivo (circa 2001 with upgraded hdd)
Xbox 360 Elite
Belkin Pure A/V power conditioner
Macbook Pro (optical input)

I've had this stuff for many years now & it all works well & I'm happy with the setup. The TV is circa 2009 & my Macbook was last year.

I've got different connections, but mostly it's all digital hookup in the back. The 360 output circles through the Sharp's feed & the optical out of the Sharp feeds into the 990. Likewise, the UVerse has two feeds, either a component output to the Outlaw & back to the TV as well as a direct HDMI to the TV.

The VCR is looped into the Toshiba DVD recorder (as is the Tivo) which then feeds into the 990 through its single component output. So far, pretty happy with the way it all works

Lifewise, if I'm just surfing the Internet but don't want to have the TV off, I can usually just watch the U-verse, but I switch to CD on the 990 & have the optical out of my Macbook fed into the 990 to listen to iTunes, Rhapsody or YouTube while I surf comfortably on the couch.

My future changes are:

Comcast (sadly U-Verse won't be at my next place)
Mr. Softy Xbox 720 (or Sony PS 4)
Denon Blu-Ray Player
iPhone universal remote
Thiel speakers (someday...it'll always be the dream..lol crazy )

I'm not really sure there is a need for a separate Blu-Ray. However, a few years ago, I was looking at that mammoth 25-lb Blu-Ray player they came out with & that looks that would complement the 990 and the monoblocks both in size & appearance. Although these days, I'm guessing nobody really cares much about having a separate Blu-Ray player & just having it added to their game system instead.

I'd like to hear how others are using their 990. smile

Thanks.

I have mine in a 2.1 system with a 7500 amp outputting to Magnepan 1.6 QRs and an Aperion S12 sub. The technics turntable feeds through the phono input on the 990. The system sounds great as is, but will eventually be melded with my southern system in a dedicated HT/music room in the basement of my NC home. I will likely feed the 990 a digital signal from the Onkyo 886 to allow output to the Maggies when I want only music from a digital source. The Onkyo is a much more flexible piece of gear when it comes to video inputs.

My next goal is to purchase a new HDTV and probably an OPPO BDP-10x to replace my old Panasonic DVD. My plan is to feed whatever cable box I have then into the OPPO to take advantage of its video processing and DAC's and then feed the audio signal into the 990 via 7.1 analog. I plan to use the SMS for bass management.

I am not going to use the 990 for video switching but will leave it connected via component.

I eventually plan to have a 120 inch projector screen set up in my HT room surrounded by 12 channels of amp (7 for HT and 4 for stereo).
