I recently hooked up my new 7500 (A-stock) along with a new Onkyo PR-SC5509 processor. I was using a receiver before.

One thing I was curious about is the power-up process. I turn the processor+source on first then the amp. Doing this I get sound to the speakers in one second (with a relay click), but it takes another 28 seconds for the LED to switch from orange to blue (with a corresponding 2nd relay click). If the amplifier is going through a protection-circuit sequence during those 29 (total) seconds, why are the speaker outputs connected right away?

I also get occasional transient pops through the speakers during operation. Not often - just a couple per hour or so. That's not something I experienced before the new equipment. Have other owners experienced this?

I haven't experienced what you stated.
My 7500 is "triggered" thru my Outlaw 990...so when I turn on the 990 the 7500 comes on a split second later....no audible sounds out of speakers during this process.....

My 7500 comes on through my 990 and puts out sound within a few seconds even though the blue light is off. 28 seconds later the blue light comes on. It has done this since I have owned it for the last three years. Outlaw thought it was abnormal at first but the startup sequence has been described in the saloon pretty consistently with no other issues noted. Contact Scott at Outlaw and he will help you figure it out. The popping noises are what would concern me. Could they be source related?

After reading XenonMan's post I checked on my unit(s) again; I hear an audible click from both units just about simultaneously, but the blue light on the 7500 comes on 4 seconds after turning on 990....

jmacari - How are you triggering your amp?

I haven't tried the 12v trigger, but the manual talks about an "automatic on" feature. This is supposed to work based on the presence or absence of an audio signal. I've tried feeding the amp a signal when the front switch is off (orange light) and nothing happens. With the front switch on (blue light) there is no indication of going into or coming out of standby mode. The light remains blue indefinitely regardless of signal status, and feeding a signal to the amp (after a long period of zero signal) results in instant sound to the speakers. No short pause or relay click as described in the manual.

Xenonman - thanks, sounds like my unit is starting up as per usual. The pops could possibly be sourced related. It definitely occurs mainly when watching Directv (happened once during a blu-ray). There weren't any pops associated with this Directv DVR before, but I have it wired differently now. Before it was HDMI from DVR to TV, then optical cable from an audio-out on the TV to the receiver (which was replaced by the Onkyo processor). Now it's a more conventional all-HDMI setup.

I have a trigger wire going from the Outlaw 990 preamp to the Outlaw 7500; that way, when I turn on the power to the 990, the amp is "triggered"/powered on...

I also have a DIRECTV DVR; I have it connected via optical to the 990 preamp....no pops at all. By following a lot of HT forums online, I read about a lot of problems with HDMI connections/handshaking with DIRECTV/DISH/ Cable, etc. with various preamps....

I tried the trigger cable and it seems to work. However, the only way I can get it to work is to first turn on the front switch (blue light) before plugging in the cable, as described in the manual. Once the cable is plugged into the amp there is no way to get the amp to switch to the orange light, even by pressing the front switch.

So the blue light stays on constantly with the trigger wire connected, but I know the trigger control is working because I can hear the relay clicking on or off in the amp when the processor is turned on (with 2 sec delay as I programmed in the processor) or off (immediate).

Does your 7500 switch to the orange light when your 990 is switched off?

Yes it does...and I hear the relay click.
Maybe because both products are Outlaw, the "handshaking" is more fluid....
Everything has worked properly since I purchased them year's ago....

My trigger wire is hooked up from the 990 to the 7500...both units are powered (physically switched off) off (I would assume this is standby mode-both units power plugs are plugged into surge protector...both lights on units are orange; (1)I turn the 990 on with my remote, (2) the 990 powers on, blue light comes on, relay clicks, 1-4 seconds later, 7500 relay clicks, blue light comes on...

When I shut 990 off with remote, both units go into standby....orange lights on...

That's the way it works on my units....

Thanks for the follow up. I'm going to try some more with the trigger wire. If I can't get my amp to match the behavior of yours then I'll be calling Outlaw.

I haven't had any transient pops yesterday or today. The amp trigger control is the last thing I feel like I need to get sorted before considering the 7500 to be good to go for the long term.
