So, here's a list of three concert recordings that offer various degrees of realism (these are recordings that I made that you can download (for free) from the web); you can stream these as well as download them (in FLAC (which is lossless), Ogg, and mp3 formats). If you download the FLAC version you can then convert to pretty much any other format.

Each concert is vastly different from the others, both in terms of the genre, the degree to which one is 'enveloped' by the sound, and the acoustics of the spaces in which these recordings were made. The venues range from a 1500-seat theater down to a 90-seat theater.

The deal with these recordings is this...these are neither conventional stereo or n.1 surround, and as such, they will really only sound 'correct' if you use headphones; all three are binaural recordings made using a Neumann KU-100 mannequin head microphone - none of these recordings have been DSP effect'd in any way.

Again, since they are binaural, and since many of us own decent headphones, and most of us (I would guess) own an mp3 player or two, I feel confident that you'll perceive most of the realism in them. However, keep in mind that because they are binaural (and not stereo etc), playing them over loudspeakers will result in a less realistic effect (because only headphones ensure that each ear will be presented with the sounds as recorded at the ears of the mannequin head microphone).

Anyway, here they are for your listening pleasure...and...for free:

1) Cowboy Junkies, Live at The Ark (Ann Arbor, Michigan), October 5, 2009:

I was (apparently) asleep at the switch when I posted the second link...so here it is (for the Sam Roberts band Concert recording):

Apparently, I pasted the link for the Cowboy Junkies recording in its stead. Sorry about that.
