Hi folks. I'm looking at purchasing a Panasonic AE900 front projector and I was wondering if anyone around here is currently using one. I've read some very favorable reviews of this projectors but would like to hear from some fellow Outlaws.

Thanks,
simp

I've heard nothing but good things about this unit. I've seen it in action as well and it's performance is excellent. I don't think you'll find anything better at ~ $2000.

Doug, thanks for the response. Your take on it seems to be the norm. Just out of curiosity, what screen are you using?

thanks,

Hi,

I'm using one, and I love it. All the praise for the unit is justified. HD looks awesome as well as upscaled DVDs. My wife asked why I didn't just get one in the first place instead of the plasma. Wonder what she really meant....

I am using a Da-Lite gray high contrast pull-down screen that came with my projector when I bought it as a package. However, I would recomend using a fixed screen if you want the best performance. Wrinkles can be a problem in pull-down screens even if you leave them down all the time. Carada.com has some very nice screens at a good price. If I had it to do over again, I would buy the fixed. When I upgrade my project in the next couple years I will definately get a fixed screen then as well.

Thanks for the input guys. While I'd like to get a fixed screen, my room layout doesn't really allow for it. In addition to that, I plan to leave my Hitachi 57S500 RPTV behind the screen. Regular TV viewing will be done on the rptv while all movies and some HDTV viewing will be done using the projector. Other than the fied/versus pull down screen issue do you have any complaints about the screen?

thanks again,
simp

No other complainnt. It just doesn't look as nice and there have been wrinkles in the screen from day one. They have gotten better over time as I never roll it back up and most people wouldn't even notice them, but I know exactly where to look. Even so, they are only visible with solid colors, white being the worst. They used to really bother me, but have flattened out and are only a minor annoyance from time to time now.

Well, my projector just showed up today. Ended up with the Panny AE900U. I set it up quick and dirty pointing it to a bare wall and the p/q is really amazing. So now I'm tasked with getting it hung and constructing a DIY screen. Stay tuned....

later,
