I just bought 3 M2200s and I am having an issue triggering the amps from my Onkyo 886. I am using trigger 1 to trigger my Boston Acoustics A7200 (Sherwood A-965 clone) which works fine. When I use either trigger 1 or 2 it will not trigger the M2200s. To add mystery to the whole story my Parasound 2100 preamp which is in my system for 2CH music triggers the M2200s no problem. But when I use the same cable that triggers the A7200 and connect it to one of the M2200s it will not trigger the amp on.

I called Outlaw service and spoke with Scott. He was very helpful and is looking into why the 886 will not trigger the M2200s. I can use the music trigger mode but I prefer the M2200s turn off right away when powering off my system. Thanks in advance for any suggestions to this issue smile.

Check the trigger voltage out of the Onkyo. It may be too weak to trigger all of the amps at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I removed the trigger cable from the A7200 and connected it to a single M2200 and it still would not trigger the amp. All cables were checked to see if any were defective and all are fine. All cables are mono plugs so that is not an issue. Seeing that Outlaw had been selling the 886 I was curious if anyone was using the M2200s with the 886. Scott did not mention if there were any issues reported with the 886/M2200 combination.

I have the PR-SC886 and it triggers an Outlaw 7125 amp with no issues. Try the 886 menu and see if there is a trigger setting for the second port. Maybe it is turned off.

Both A an B triggers are activated in the menu. I swapped the cables around and the A7200 is triggered by both the A and B triggers. A few different Outlaw amps that I looked at show different specs for the 12v input. That might have no meaning at all as far as how each trigger input functions but there is a difference.

Have you ever used the Onkyo to trigger two items at the same time before? Maybe its trigger voltage is less than the 2200 requires. Since you can trigger the 2200 from other sources, the Onkyo would be suspect. The 2200 manual says 6-35 volts for trigger. Measure the trigger output voltage and if it is lower than 6 volts you may need a repeater. Does the "music" setting function as the trigger? Just for curiousity sake, how long after the system is off do the 2200 stay active?

No I haven't triggered more than one amp with the 886. But when I connect only one M2200 to the 886 without the A7200 the single amp will not trigger on. I have had a number of M/C and Stereo amps in my system with the 886 and have never had this issue. I do not have meter to measure the voltage. But it seems to work fine with all the other amps I've owned. I'll look into a repeater if that will help. The Music setting works fine with all three amps. I have not timed how long the amps stay on but I'd guess around 15 minutes. Not a big deal just that I prefer to use the 12v trigger. Thanks again for your help smile!

Try out several different mono cords on the 2200s. Maybe the contacts are not fully engaging. Right now it is a mystery why the 2200s won't trigger from the Onkyo but will trigger from other equipment and the Onkyo has no trouble triggering other equipment. I would swap out the cables to see if there is an issue there.

I tried switching the cables around and all of them are fine. All that are used are seated properly and are mono cables. With the fact that the 2100 triggers the single M2200 I thought I would run my system with the 2100 on for all HT functions. But I just setup the trigger cables so the 2100 will be used to trigger all three M2200s. But with all three M2200s connected in series they will not trigger on. If I pull the cable from the 12v output of the first M2200 the amp triggers on. If I plug the output cable in that sends the signal to the other two M2200s the first amp shuts down. To me that indicates that there is some type of voltage drop when connecting the M2200s in series. I'm going to try using a different M2200 as the first amp to make sure there is not an issue with the M2200 that has the feed from the 2100.

It is becominng quite obvious that the issue I am seeing is related to some issue with the triggers of the M2200s. I am somewhat disappointed that this is happening as I would think with the M2200s being monoblocks that three, five or seven can be used in series without trigger issues. I'll give Scott a call tomorrow to see what options I have so I can use the 12v triggers. I just do not like using the Music trigger option as the amps do not come on at all times. By that I mean if I'm watching cable TV in 5.1 digital the M2200s that power my R&L speakers do not always come on unless the volume is fairly high.

I agree it seems the 2200s are the issue. Maybe Outlaw has a solution. If not you could return them and ask for the sale price on the 7125. Maybe get them to throw in some free shipping too.
