I need help with my 990. For some strange reason, I'm unable to get the menu function to display. I did a hard reset and now I'm unable to get anything re-configured.

If I select the input on my TV, I get DirecTV, not the menu.

Any idea's why? Unit's been operating like a charm, but now I've got a glorious brick.

Help!!!

Check to make sure your video connection is intact to the TV. Remember that you had to connect another video feed from the 990 to use the OSD.

Are you saying that the 990 is dead, or that you can't pull up the setup menu from the 990?
How is the 990 connected to the TV?

@ZenonMan: tried using "S" video from the Video Monitor out and the Video Record out to the TV. No joy either way.

@Koyaan: the unit will play, but I've lost all of my previous configs. Cannot get the menu to function using either the front panel buttons or the OSD. For some reason when I go to input #3 on the TV I'm getting whatever my DirecTV receiver is showing. I've never configured the 990 for video. I've pulled the optical connections, #s 1 & 2, out and just used the "S" video from the video outs and I get nothing at all on the receiver input on the TV. It used to work just fine since I got and configured the unit in 2009. There's no one here but me, so the odds of someone else doing something is not part of the equation.

I made the mistake earlier today of doing a reset to see if I could get the menu to display and that was a huge mistake since I lost all of my configurations.

I created a ticket with tech support this afternoon, so I hope to hear from them tomorrow.

Thanks,

Bob

The record outputs don't carry the OSD. The monitor output should carry it, though.

It's always hard to trouble-shoot these sorts of things, but I think you're on the right track with the s-video monitor output. You should be able to connect s-video, composite video, or component video "MONITOR" output to a display, set the display to that input, and enter the setup menu. You won't get any signal until the menu loads, because you probably don't have a video signal connected and configured. That may cause some TVs to report "no signal" until the menu loads.

I think Gonk hit it on the head. You won't get the OSD on the "record" output.
