Hello again,

I finally got around to programming the Outlaw 1050's remote control to manage a 37" Sharp Aquos bought in 2007. I was able to get all of the needed functions to work. The menus for controlling color, contrast, brightness or setup items like antenna and audio output don't work. The MENU button will open the menus but the SELECT button and the surrounding four arrow keys don't let me navigate the menus. Is it even possible to make this work on a TV that was built 5-6 years after the 1050? Since those settings are mostly "set and forget" would it be worth my time to do it if it were possible?

I use my MacBook Pro for DVD playback and iTunes. I suppose it would be ridiculous to even think that the Outlaw's remote could perform the functions of the little white Apple Remote.

Jim

I think you would have to use the JP1 remote programming techniques to make it work, since you would have to add codes that didn't exist when the 1050 was built. For menu settings on the TV that aren't used on a regular basis, I would consider that at lot of effort for little benefit. As for the Apple Remote, I agree that those codes will not be in the remote. Again, you'd have to count on the JP1 programming to add them. See this site for JP1 info.

JP1 looks like Windows only, so never mind. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you'd need to be running Windows to use the JP1 software that has been developed. You would also need a custom cable. It would be less money than a third-party universal remote like a Harmony or URC, but it would be a similar (or longer) time investment. The URC software is also Windows only. I'm not sure about Logitech Harmony - they might support Mac.
