I like the all-Energy approach. Bet they sound good.

Before getting a Model 950 I was using a Marantz AV560. Same vintage as the AV9000 - just fewer features / connections. While it cost less, the 950 was a definite upgrade - especially in the features department. My guess (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that your AVP550 is even older - although I couldn't find any reference to it on the Marantz web site. Perhaps that's your next upgrade in the making?

ps. it's good to hear from other Outlaws who have actually owned and lived with Sherwood Newcastle products, and who can comment with authority on them. That's the type of helpfull participation that I'm sure members other than myself appreciate.

have you had any convergence problems with your hitachi yet? i have had a few of them, and they are a great value and great quality, but they tend to go out of convergence to the point where they need to be serviced. of course i have 65in, so convergence is more difficult, but im just curious, because i know quite a few people with hitachis and we all have had convergence issues (some wont admit it, but i can see it on their sets...).

Hey Canuck,
I am a fellow owner of a Marantz AVP 550, and just replaced it with the Outlaw 950. I still use the Marantz in my living room mostly for music now, it still sounds great.I upgraded to the 950 and couldn't be happier. I wanted component switching, DTS, PLII. I use Boston Acoustics all around, VRM-50's upfront, VR-12 center, VRS pros for surrounds and Micro 90x for back surrounds. I know how good the Marantz sounds so I was pleasently surprised when the 950 surpassed it. Enjoy!!

Hey Jeff, I believe the Marantz 550's last year was 2000 (educated guess) I was using an adcom gd-d1. It is crystal clear but did'nt give me any options with bass, treble, and there were only digital inputs. So I could'nt get pro-logic on my satalite. The real selling point was the $400 canadian (tax included) with the RC-2000mkII. The remote alone was $250 US. I works great. I am happy with my system for now. I am in the process of building a new house. I have had this system or variations in an apartment for 4 yrs. Like having a Ferrari with only first gear. Can't wait for the VOLUME.

I set it once over a year ago (64 point) and that was it. I just bought a used Video Essentials DVD. Not the newest version but I will give it a try, there my be something I am missing. Later.
