After watching a DVD and switching back to satellite, I get audio but no video. The only way I've been able to get video back is re-setting the DirecTV receiver. Needless to say a PITA. Oh, and I have a weak signal in the left surround. May be time to put the 'ol girl down and move on.

How do you know you have a weak signal in the left surround?

How do you have the video sources connected?

For the left surround, have you checked your calibration?

Video connections from DirecTV receiver are as follows:
HDMI/DVI from receiver to DVI in on 990, DVI/HDMI out to TV.
I have done auto calibrate, no help so I have the left surround up to +15db. I get a faint white noise on the channel test with it set that way. It doesn't appear to be the amp, as I have swapped channels and it still won't work.

The video problem sounds a little like an HDCP handshake issue. My Toshiba HD-A2 had a similar problem when going through a MonoPrice HDMI switch. Does turning the TV off and back on make any difference? Another option there could be using component from the DirecTV receiver. If it's like the cable boxes I've used, picture quality is indistinguishable between the two (I've even preferred component over DVI in at least one case).

The left surround does sound suspect. My two thoughts would be to try the other left surround pre-amp output (balanced or unbalanced, depending on which you're using now) and to contact Outlaw Support about it.

Have you tried swapping interconnects from the right to the left to see if the cable or speaker is the issue. What amp are using using? Can you swap to an balanced connection? Try to eliminate the 990 output as the problem. Could be a bad interconnect or speaker cable or the speaker as you have already ruled out the amp.

Ok, sorry it took so long to report back. As to the video switching problem, if I turn off the DirecTV receiver and turn it back on I will get a picture. A bit of a pain, but the problem seems to come and go so I can live with that. The left surround problem was solved by going from the SL out to the SBL out and activating the back surrounds in the settings. So, for now I'm happy and a big thanks to everyone for their ideas. It's great to have this resource available.
