Hi Folks!

Newbie here. A quick question. I am rebuilding my entire system, thougha piece or two at a time. For the pre/pro amp I was looking at the 990/7500. I spend 60/40 music to HT. I do not have 7 speakers. I can't conceive of using 7.1 until more content carries the true 7.1 codec. So, in order to prioritize my quest, any thought on using the 7500 now for the bulk of the work and and if needing additional channels later adding a the 2200's to the system. Or should I consider the 7700 and wait for the eventual tide of progress. Running Dynadio 220's REL T2

Welcome to the forum and nice speaker choice! I too have the Dynaudio 220s running with the 990/7500 combo.

I'd say go with the 7500 and if you ever go to 7.1, buy a stereo amp (or monos) for the mains.

For what it's worth, I'm running a 990/7500 combo with a pair of Model 200's to help round out the 7.1. It is a perfectly reasonable approach, particularly since not every space is conducive to 7.1.

I agree with the above suggestions. However, the 7500/7700's are very nice amps. You may find it better (and cheaper) to add a stereo amp for the rears in the future and keep the mains on the 7500. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

tytlnz,

I am running the about the same setup as gonk except I use the 7500 for my center channel and surrounds and two 2200's for my mains.

The reason I have set it up this way is so that my 7500 is turned off when listening to stereo music. It only comes on for SACD, DTS audio and DVD's.

For now I would use the 7500 for everything and when the time comes for 7.1 add a couple of 2200's and you will have one sweet system. smile

my understanding was that the 7500's amp design was slightly superior to the 2200's. I own both.

The design is different. The 7500's amp channels are class A/B all the time, I believe, while the 2200 transitions from A/B to G at around 80W of output. Also, the 2200 is a true monoblock (one power supply for one amp channel), while the 7500 has a single power supply (or perhaps sort of two, since there are two transformers) for the five channels. I've found the differences to be very subtle between my 7500 and my older 200's, with my preference being for the 7500 by a narrow margin.
