Hello all. I desperately need some Outlaw wisdom.

I am putting together a modest HT room and cannot decide what amplifier to purchase. I am deciding on the 7700 or the 7125 paired with the 990.

My speaker setup is 2 x Axiom M80, 4 x Axiom QS8s, 1 x Axiom EP 175 and 1 x VP100.

This is mainly for 95% home theater and 5% music listening. I am unsure if I need the extra power that the 7700’s offer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Jonathan

How modest is modest in terms of size?

How effecient are your speakers?

How much power is allowed in this room in terms of your electircal circuits?

The 7700 is very very nice but requires at least dedicated 15 amp ciruit ( if not 20 amps).

It will grow with your system if you upgrade.

The 7125 should work well with your current system.

The M80 is a pretty large speaker, but it's also a 4 ohm load - which means that the 7125 will actually give it 190W, not 125W. I'd be curious to know what people have used to drive M80's over the years. It's very likely that many of them have ended up on receivers whose amps sections are not nearly as capable of dealing with a 4 ohm load and offer far less power than the 7125. That doesn't mean that the 7700 couldn't provide some benefit, but it'd be a useful bit of information (and one that folks around here could probably help with).

I would order the 7125 because you have the 30 day trial.

Also;

The M80 are very efficient and an easy 4 ohm load. I have the 80s and am continually surprised how little power they use for such a big sound. I can see on the readouts of my amp that the mains rarely go higher than 10 watts.

My whole system including the TV pulls less than 6 amps.

Use the difference in the price of the 7125 and 770 to upgrade your sub to an EP500. It will make a HUGE difference in your HT experience.

What are you using to drive the 80s now?
