Gotta tell ya:

Been using Crown Electrostatics in one environment at home (my office/basement) for years in a 4 channel in-line array fed from 4 ch material. (Music recorded live in 4 ch). Tonight I found that the 755 which I took out of the living room (replaced it with a 7700) made the Crown electrostats come to life.
They been resurrected. The have NEVER sounded this good.

Thanks outlaws laugh laugh

All,

I am currently an Energy owner
Energy Reference 22.2
Energy EFX surround speakers

I am looking for comparable speakers

I am building a Home Theater room
I am going 7.1 and the speakers will be eventually mated with Outlaw 7x200 Amp.

Do you think I really need to upgrade?

I like to keep cost down but I also want nice warm sounding speakers. they will be used for Home Theater and Music 60/40

How are AV123 or Axioms?

What do you recommend?

Thanks all for your help

Greg

nfaguys, congrats on your Crown resurrection. I had a similar epiphany a few months ago with my electrostats (Martin Logan reQuest) when I moved to the 7500 (7700 sans 2 channels).

Previously, I passively bi-amped my reQuests with a Classe CAV-75 then the Outlaw 7125. The 7125 was a bit of an improvement over the CAV-75 and gave me an additional channel to boot so I sold my Classe.

Then, when it was available as part of the 7125 -> 7500 or 7700 upgrade program, I auditioned the 7500. I really hoped the 7125 and the 7500 would sound the same, especially so I could put the $500 difference towards a new sub-woofer. The 7500, however, provided a dramatic improvement and really opened up the speakers, especially in the mids and highs. I fell in love again with my reQuests. I kept the 7500 and returned the 7125.

Thank you Outlaw!

Rob

Rob.
Once again the outlaw amps proved extremely helpful. I am glad to know that othgers have experienced the same. So congrats to you, too.

In fact I am going to replace my preamp(s) [takes two of them since that particular room is a 4 ch room] with a 970 pre/pro. May be "overkill" but WTF (or W.T.H.). I am currently using two Crown SL2 preamps for the 4 channels. I found that the 990's 7.1 direct with my choice of assignment does well in the living room (hybrid 5.1 and 4 ch). So in my 4 ch room the 970 will use 7.1 for the 4 ch. Other inputs will be stereo, bypass or upsample depending. Most of the equipment there is analog. One coax one optical. Video not needed. A major advantage will be the remote, which I don't have now. This is in my "office".....

Hey !!!!! You outlaws with "offices" does this mean tax deduction???? confused laugh

Scott: good selling point??

You're making some great use of analog direct inputs, nfaguys. It's always fun to hear about systems that "think outside the box" to achieve specific goals. smile

If that were the case, we'd all have 990s&7700s in our "offices" laugh

If your business is audio/video, it's easy to write it off for customer demo use. The only other way to pull it off is if you can prove that it's used for a business critical purpose (ie, videoconferencing, etc). Otherwise, it would be a tough sell. frown

Hey slugg: how 'bout for those who have a "waiting room". Part of "office eqpt?"

This was a no-brainer, gonk. Those directs were just sitting there awaitin' fer me. So for those who need multiple inputs (SACD, DVD-A, and in my case 4 channel in-line) and don't want to spend the money on VEKTOR eqpt...if they still make the switcher...a cheap and easy way is patch bay. Just "normal" whichever you wish (probably SACD) and when you use the other format just cross patch. Been doin' it for years with other (older audio) stuff.

You wrote "office" but I read "home office." You really do have an office if you have a waiting room eek If you have a standalone office, or part of your house that is a dedicated office that is covered by IRS home office deduction rules, whatever improvements you make fall under those same rules. But please check with your tax accountant - I don't want the bad news wink

I want to know where your office is, so I can come by and "wait" laugh
