I am using the sms-1 between my preamp and power amp. Does the sms convert the analog signal to digital, do the high pass filter and then convert back to analog for output to the power amp (a-d-a)?

If I used the "thru" inputs and somehow used an analog active or passive high pass crossover/filter between the sms and the power amp, would this remove the a-d-a conversion?

I have tried a few variations on the theme, but it seems everything sounds best using the regular setup of doing a high pass filter for the main speakers irregardless of the a-d-a issue. But wondering if anyone has gone further?

Are you talking about the left/right channels, or the subwoofer signal? If memory serves correctly, the high-pass filter is a fixed 80Hz analog crossover - only the low-pass filter for the subwoofer is adjustable, so only the subwoofer signal goes through A-D-A conversion.

Wow! That would be great. I thought since I saw the various crossovers tht they would be effecting the high pass filter. I will go a re-read the manul and guide to see if that is correct. Thanks for the help.

I checked through the guide - and as best as I can tell, the high-pass is analog. It is fixed at 80Hz and cannot be defeated at those outputs, neither of which would make sense for a digital crossover.
