Hi, I placed an order for an SMS-1 last week and it should be here some time next week. I also have an Onkyo TS-XR 805 that has an Audessy auto eq built in, my question is will I need to turn off the auto EQ in the Onkyo for the SMS to work properly, or can I leave the Audessy calibrations where they are and just let the SMS correct the calibration and bass management even further?

I'd recommend disabling Audyssey, then setting up the SMS-1, then re-running Audyssey. This lets the SMS-1 manage the subwoofer optimally and lets Audyssey focus on everything else...

Sorry butchering the spelling of Audyssey BTW.

But how would make the Audyssey EQ bypass any sub woofer settings or changes that it make during its setup?

If the SMS-1 is set up first and then Audyssey is re-run, it will measure the space with the SMS-1's EQ applied. Basically, it's the same as putting a bass trap or other acoustical treatment in the room - the adjustment (SMS-1 or bass trap) alters the system's behavior, thus affecting what Audyssey does.

Is this what I'm looking for? Or do I need to keep working?

Right around 85hz to 120hz there was a big hole that why all the paddles are wadded up there and it's still alittle kinky. The best I can tell every thing looks to be within + or - 3db's. what do you guys think. Any one got any more setup tips?

BTW I was setting at angle when I took the picture that's why the right side seems to slope down so much

Nice to see another Polkie. I have RTA-12c mains, CSI-5 center, and 2 pairs of RC-85i's for surrounds.

That must have taken a lot of tweaking. If not, you are lucky.

I spent the best part of a weekend getting the perfect response line. Later I realized that I had done the whole thing with the door of my home theater open. It took me months to find the time to try again.

Looks like a great blend with your speakers. I have a 100Hz dip that doesn't seem to go away.

That's a very nice setup for the SMS-1. One question: what frequency are you crossing your speakers over at? If it's below 100Hz, those settings in the right-hand group will only get applied to the LFE channel, as signals in that region for other channels will go to the speakers and not the sub.

garcianc2003, yeah I check this forum fairly regularly, I don't always sign in though, got to keep up with when the pre's are coming out. smile and yes it took a good bit of tinkering to get where it is now.

gonk, my mains are set 80hz, I thought the null I was getting was a phase issue with the sub and mains, but no matter where I set x-overs the null always stayed around the same spot. I adjusted the phase some, and it helped alittle but the only way I could get to really flatten out was to raise the lowpass filter to 120hz. Any more set up tip would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a null that remains whether the crossover is set above it or below it, then the null is presumably created by the room. Moving the subwoofer is a possibility at that point (Outlaw's guide to the SMS-1 talks about using the SMS-1 to refine subwoofer placement), assuming you have options for changing where the sub is located, but it will only help if the null will be below the crossover point. Otherwise you'll need to look at room treatment or see if the Onkyo 805's Audyssey can address the null.
