I am shopping for a set of monoblock amps to use with my Denon receiver (as a pre/pro) and Paradigm speakers.

The Outlaw 2200's are top contenders.

They look extremely similar to the NHT A1 monoblock. I asked NHT for the story and they said both amps were designed by the same outsourced company. Interesting that neither NHT or Outlaw actually design their amps.

Does anyone know what the differences are between these two products?

Which is better?

It looks like the NHT is class G at all levels and the Outlaw is class AB up to around 100W and then class G above that. Is that a real design difference or just a spec difference? Which is better?

The prices are about the same. The NHT lists for a bit more but I can get it discounted to the same price as the Outlaw.

Thanks,
Dan

Did they say who actually designed the amp? Interesting....

Cheers,

I looked at the NHTs before I bought Outlaws M200. The special pricing for 3 and Outlaw's return policy made it easy to do a test drive. I would call Outlaw and ask about the G vs A/B-G class rating. They will give you an answer.

My Axiom M80tis are 4 ohm and the 200s do a great job at low and high volume. I like the monos because I know I am getting the rated current as opposed to sharing a power supply.

I believe the only difference between the NHT A1's and the M2200's is aesthetic at this point since the M2200 now incorporates the balanced inputs. The A1's do have the front undercarriage lights but those may not be important to you. The M2200's do have (IMO) a nicer setup for the trigger ON/OFF power with the 1/8" plug instead of direct wire.

NHT does play the number game in specing the amp by rating the power at 6 ohm instead of 8 ohm but I don't think it fools anyone.

If it matters I have the NHT A1's but I also use an Outlaw 770.

NHT also announced a while back a new amp based on the A1/M2200 design. It was a stereo 100 watt/channel amp in the same chassis as the A1. I'll bet Outlaw has one out soon.
