I am considering getting the 1070, but I have some questions that I cant seem to find an answer to. Will the 1070 switch all the video inputs to the DVI out? Or does the DVI output only switch the DVI inputs? My reason for asking is that I have a DLP projector using a DVI connection to a Home theater PC, and I want to be sure that I can use the 1070 for video switching. So will I be able to connect a video source to the 1070 componet video, and be able to switch it to the DVI out?

The DVI switching is limited to digital video source switching, with no transcoding of analog sources or menu overlay on the DVI output. Any analog input (composite, s-video, and component) will be sent to the component output, but the DVI output only gets DVI inputs.

Thank-you for the info gonk. I think I still might consider the 1070, and just go with componet video cables...

If all of your sources are analog (component, composite, s-video), you'd be just as well off with component to the projector. Depending on how far the projector is from the equipment rack, you might even be better off - DVI and HDMI require oversized cables or signal boosters to run more than 15 meters (the official limit for cable length with both standards).

Can I have a DVI input sent out the Component Monitor Output?

I'm afraid not. And that's not likely to change even in future generations of hardware: unlike analog (composite, s-video, component) to digital (DVI, HDMI) transcoding which will show up, digital to analog transcoding runs into anti-piracy concerns that makes Hollywood most unhappy.

Gefen offers just about any switcher you need (not sure if all bi-directional though). Price can be steep depending how much you've already invested in your current equipment.

Yeah, Gefen's got a ton of stuff, but they don't have anything that'll take DVI-D and output component video. There are a couple devices on the market that will do this (the folks running CRT front projectors are the target market), but they're difficult to find because RIAA frowns on their very existence. You won't see companies like Pioneer, Anthem, Outlaw, or Gefen including that capability in their hardware any time in the forseeable future.

That's not a 'bad thing' to do at all. That's what video switching is all about. It seems like a lot of enthusiasts are excited about the now affordable technology of transcoding and upscaling (not the same) thier non-progressive DVD players and VCRs to digital outputs DVI/HDMI.
