Of course the match up of the 990 and the 7125 is a great center piece on any HT system but... it could maybe have been better. From page 22 of the 990 manual "The Model 990 offers blanced (XLR) and unbalanced outputs. If your amplifer has balanced inputs, we recomend you use balanced audio cables between the model 990 and your amplifier. Using balanced cables could result in a slight redution in noise." Also on page 9, "These are professional-style outputs that carry the plus and minius audio signal separetely from the ground signal."

I did not finish the above... So if the 7125 is so great and such a great match why did it not have the professional style noise reducing connectors... Why is there not one amp in the Outlaw line with this connectors?

I'm glad they didn't include the XLR connections in this amp. The 7125 (and discontinued 7100) are placed in the Outlaw lineup as inexpensive models at the bottom of the amp lineup. Adding XLRs would have driven up the cost and would have little, if any benefit for the average user of these amps.

it would have been better timing to release the 990 with the 790 to complement it. much more impressive than the 770.

kosman, i am sure you have a stockpile of xlr cables just waiting to be plugged in.

no extra cables but I am sure the great guys at Outlaw would come up with a super package of the 990 and the 790 with XLR cables just thrown in!!!

Actually I am off the XLR bandwagon now, and have turned my attention to HDMI specs. Right now HDMI is a joke! Just a more expensive cable for DVI. I guess we are going to have to wait until ver. 1.2 before all audio channels are included, only then will HDMI be what it stands for.

Or, if the 790 is more juice (and cash) than you are looking for, maybe one of the fully balanced 200WPC amps that will apparently replace the 770 and 755 in a couple of months...

I agree. The amp looks great but I've committed
to using XLR as well. I've gone with the
AudioSource Modular amps. One problem it has
with XLR is that they won't auto-detect
when it gets a signal like its unbalanced
connector would. So there is some inconvenience
of having to turn a lot of things on manually
but I don't mind much.

XLR works. I originally had this nasty
hum when I was using the unbalanced inputs. Once
I switched to XLR it was gone. The hum was
associated with some grounding issue. I purchased
a Belkin PureAV power supply center to help
alleviate that also.

Having modular amps is bulky though. I have to
have two racks of AudioSource amps to house them
all & since it's heavy, they aren't a part of
the rack furniture. They're placed on an amp stand
on the floor next to the rack. Definitely
something I wouldn't have forseen when I was
researching stereo equipment.
