Just received my LFM-2 and am hooking it up in a small sitting room HT. Shelf space is limited for receiver, DVD player and HDTV DVR. Was considering placing the DVD player on top of the LFM-2 and wondering if others have done anything along the same lines? Thanks - Bob

I have not. My one concern would be vibration - the DVD's spinning at pretty high RPM, and any vibrations that are carried up from the sub would probably not be appreciated. The HDTV DVR has a hard drive in it, but the hard drive may be a bit better designed to absorb vibration (since it has fixed platters working in its favor) - could it go on the LFM-2 instead?

Thanks, gonk. The DVR could go on top of the sub, but I wondered if the sub's magnetic field would corrupt the HD. As a separate thought, any reason the receiver (27 lbs) couldn't go on the sub? I could also place the DVD player on top of the DVR on the shelf in the flat panel display stand, but was concerned about heat build-up. Any thoughts?

Gonk -- To help clarify things, the DVD player is the Oppo DV-981, and the DVR is the Motorola 6400 series cable box. The receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5960. If I stacked the Oppo and cable box, there their sides would be totally open and there would be better than 3 inches of headroom to the next shelf.

The receiver shouldn't mind being on the sub, and it should be least likely to be bothered by vibration. I would tend to agree that it's worthwhile to be cautious stacking anything on top of the DVR - my experience with cable boxes is that their manufacturers seem to secretly wish to be making electric space heaters, since ever digital cable box I've ever had has dumped a surprising amount of heat out the vents. The OPPO could go under the DVR and should not be a problem, assuming the Motorola isn't deeper than the OPPO (something that is probably not the case).

Gonk -- Just to close the loop. Spoke to Oppo who said putting the DVR on top of the 981 should be no problem. Indeed, that is the way the Oppo tech has had his system set up for over a year without any issue. Thanks again.
