Hello all,

Been a LONG time since I've been to the saloon.

Background - I've got a 990 matched to a 770 amp. No firmware updates since I got the unit....

I'm putting together a new HTPC with a built in HDDVD and BluRay drive.

I want to output from the HTPC to the 990 and be able to have the 990 decode 5.1/6.1/7.1 sound from the computer or play back the sound that is processed on the computer.

The current sound card I had on the old htpc, if I play DVD or HDDVD (xbox 360 drive), it comes out as PCM 2 channell at least thats all the 990 sees and it uses DP2 to matrix it to all my speakers which is not ideal.

Any suggestions on what sound card I can use to get true DD/DTS to play back on the 990 via a connection to and HTPC? Preferably in a pci-E 1X slot format.

Thanks,

Obi

If you want 7.1 you'll need a sound card that has 7.1 channels out. M-Audio used to make one, but I no longer see it as a product, but here's an old link:http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Revolution71-main.html

5.1 of course will a lot easier because you can use coaxil or spdif and there are many mother boards that will have it.

I'd checkout some cards on zzounds.com or newegg.com.

What HTPC software are you using?

Hey Retep,

m-audio currently has the Delta 1010lt
link: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta1010LT-main.html

but not sure if it will do it.

I currently have a Dynex DX-SC51 which can do 5.1 and has toslink but all output via toslink is PCM 2-ch no matter what I try to send to the 990. I'm worried if I pick up something like the creative x-fi xtremeaudio I will have the same problem and have wasted the money....

The motherboard I have is a M3A78-EMH HDMI from ASUS... it had 8 channel HD audio but no spdif out (toslink or digital coax) only the 8 typical pc speaker type connectors....

Are there cables available for running from the normal pc speaker connector to the RCA direct inputs on the 990?

thanks,

obi

as for htpc software i'm using Media Porta along with, cough cough XP Media Center cough cough for a little bit of stuff. RitzDVB for FTA (reason I'm not using vista) but half the time I'll just run good old vlc to quickly fire something up.....

I am thinking of getting one of Antec's new Multimedia Stations when they become available as well....
